is a collaboration between Lucas Caesens and Pieter Steyaert, both graphic design students. The project started out as a school assignment for Sint-Lucas college of the arts in Ghent. Rather than making a standard presentation, a gamification of the assignment was made. The content of the presentation, Lars Von Trier’s Melancholia, was remixed and re-conceived, in order to create a performance that remained faithful to the content and background of the movie within a different context. The main theme of the presentation is the countdown to the apocalypse of the movie Melancholia. Different aspects of the movie and life of Lars Von trier are being treated in a way that the user allows to experience some of the concepts, rather than simply understanding them. The “gamer” sees paradox-footage of Von Trier’s oeuvre and life, blended together with a live camera feed (for orientation purposes) and an interface including map-directories. The iPhone on top of the helmet sends out gps-data in order to check whether a goal has been achieved that will influence the flow of the iPad-application.
